Here are a few other items you probably already own that also work well when paired with a pencil skirt! The pencil skirt is a wardrobe staple for a reason. I chose plain black, but if you venture out into other styles of pencil skirt, you'll open up so much more variety and take your whole look to a different, very not-boring, level. (I put some examples below the video). This video is about 14 minutes long, FYI.
Personally, there isn't anything I WON'T wear with a pencil skirt, including racier things like a bustier or other lingerie items in lieu of a shirt (for things like date night... though for a look like that, I always keep it all solid black to keep it from going too far off into the land of the tawdry, and then I throw a blazer on top).
Before I sign off, here are some easy tips to look and feel your best in a pencil skirt:
- If you're not sure what length or style to choose, go with a fitted stretchy pencil that is knee length, in a neutral color. That is going to be most comfortable, universally flattering, and will match everything. Neutrals to consider: Black, white, navy, charcoal, pale blush pink, dark olive green, burgundy, dark brown.
- Your undergarments matter! Visible panty lines are tacky AF, so pick a thong. No, thongs are not inherently immoral in nature (seriously), nor are they uncomfortable as long as you picking the right kind in the correct size. Hanky Panky is a great brand that my thong-hating friends will actually wear. Pick one in a flesh-tone that matches your skin closely (that way you can wear it with lighter colored bottoms as well).
- If you are worried about not having a smooth silhouette underneath a fitted pencil skirt, invest in some shapewear. I recommend wearing one that is high-waist (stops beneath your bust or higher than your belly button) and is a shorts-style bottom that is longer (about bicycle shorts length). Your curves will look super sleek! And the reason I recommend a shorts-style bottom, versus a skirt bottom, is that there is way less chafing with the shorts bottom.
Have an awesome weekend, never stop shopping your own closet for new outfits, and I'll see you Monday!
