I love thrifting in Europe, any country in Europe, and if you have the privilege of being able to travel, you MUST check out the local thrift and consignment stores! Also, Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities, even though it's one of the few places that I 1). had to actually pull cash (Euros) from an ATM instead of using my Visa or AmEx, and 2). I definitely FELT short. I am already short by US standards, but the people in the Netherlands aren't just tall; they're super-model tall. I actually had a hard time signing credit card receipts at the counter because I couldn't even SEE high enough. I joked about needing a step-stool and got a pity-laugh from the 5'11" clerk. If I ever stay in Europe for an extended period of time, I will likely need a very good tailor. I have never felt shorter than when I was in Northern Europe. I think a lot of Americans would even feel short in the Netherlands. The Dutch are TALL. I believe the men are 6'1" on average, though I don't remember the average height for women, but I am pretty sure it is taller than 5'4" (which is the average height for an American woman).
Checking out for now, see you soon!
