All other fashion-related purchases must be from NOT my bank account. For example, store credit and gift cards. When I get gift cards from sponsors, Christmas, my birthday, or from winning something, I set it aside for a rainy day.
Well, all of #NoBuy365 has been a rainy day. I have had to be REALLY creative with how I use my gift cards and store credit to maximize my purchasing power (and by store credit, I don't mean a line of credit with a store; I mean referral credits or credits earned from consigning). I am sure this would have been really really difficult if I did not have a hefty stash of gift cards at my disposal. And honestly, I'm proud of myself that I didn't even use all of them for clothing purchases. I bought my kids some of their school supplies and electronics with my Amazon gift cards, for example. I did blow through every single pre-paid Visa though, in a frightening manner. I was drunk with purchasing power. It was glorious. But now I need to survive until February somehow, when I'm finally done with this year-long challenge (I started it on my birthday, and will end it on my birthday... hey, that probably means more gift cards!)
But anyway, I'm going to share how I snagged these two shirts for nearly free! (the remainder paid with the last dregs of my Express gift card, FYI, but that remainder was less than $5).
BUT, I knocked $20 off my total through Express Rewards. If you shop at Express and aren't a part of their rewards program, you're missing out on store credit! You can earn "points" that turn into credit after a certain number is reached, through your own purchases... or you can do what I do and log in and see what "activities" you can do to add points to your balance. For example, writing a review and leaving a photo. Logging in with a social media account. Things like that.
Without buying anything, I managed to get $20 in credit, which you can apply to any purchase. Even clearance items.
That dropped my total to $3.98, plus tax. (I forget the exact amount I paid in tax).
And then, if you go "pick up in store", you avoid the $8 shipping. OR, if you have Shoprunner (which is FREE for American Express cardholders), you just have to make sure you buy $25 or more total (after all discounts) to get free 2-day shipping. For those of you NOT on a shopping ban, that shouldn't be too hard!
So that's how I managed to get 2 new shirts from Express for less than $5. Which is great, because I only had $6.20 left on my Express gift card... BUT I DID IT. I managed to turn the chump change left on my gift card, into 2 new shirts!
High-fiving myself right now! I am all about finding little loopholes and ways of getting around obstacles, even if they are self-imposed obstacles.
And I will of course show them off in some future OOTDs.
Happy bargain-hunting everyone, and I hope my tips and tricks for getting things super cheap are helpful! Especially for those of you shopping for girls for back to school shopping. I feel like even though I am not personally buying things, I'm still hemorrhaging a small fortune for my 3 daughters' clothing. There are mimosas in my near future. I can feel it.
