In my quest for a truly transfer resistant, long-wearing red lipstick, I decided to splurge on a lip stain by Younique (you have to purchase through one of their direct sales reps, which is annoying, but I have an acquaintance who sells). It wasn't cheap (I think I paid about $27 including shipping costs), but I was desperate. After my son whacked me in the face while I was wearing a red lipstick, which left a horrible red mark on his sleeve, I decided that red lipstick was too much of a liability otherwise. It was his favorite hoodie, and although I was able to get the stain out, it was a lot more work than I wanted.
Because this is me, I chose the color "Sultry" color, which is kick-down-the-doors-and-take-no-prisoners Red. It's Bitch Red. It means business.
This color looks different on everyone, I've noticed, so be aware that your natural lip color does affect the outcome. This is how it looks on me, like a rich, deep, blue-red. Classic to the core.
First some tips on how to get the best of the product: USE A LIP SCRUB FIRST. Even if you don't think your lips are dry and/or flaky, don't skip this step. The stain will go on much more evenly if you prep.
Secondly, use a lip liner. The applicator of this product is OKAY, but precision is lacking. So use a matching lip liner to get that crisp, clean, perfect line. Also, it prevents the color from bleeding out.
Once you've done those, then apply the product. Start with one thin layer, and wait about a minute or two. Do not rub your lips together. Be patient. For more color, you can layer this product. I usually do two layers for a really saturated look. Sometimes I do one layer, and then after it's set, put a high shine gloss over the top (great for a day look).
As far as how it performs for transfer resistance... I wore this all day. And even exercised in it.
It felt utterly ridiculous to run 6 miles in red lipstick (thankfully I have a treadmill in my garage so no one saw me). I felt like one of THOSE women... you know, who have a full face of make-up on at the gym for some reason because they're too concerned with looking cute than working out? Well, here's me, covered in sweat, wearing the product. Definitely took it for a test run. Har har, bad pun, not sorry.
After my workout, I ate tacos (because duh), and even through greasy food, the lipstain powered through. Granted, my acquaintance who sells Younique products says that it doesn't last as long for her, so results may vary, but it definitely worked for me. Through EVERYTHING.
Verdict: Worth every cent. My go-to POWER RED!
