I tested this product out in my daughter's bedroom because her room was flooded with natural light during that particular time of the day; hence the turquoise bunk bed and purple walls. (Also, she was very excited to see how this works so she can start curling her hair too).
I am not a fan of doing anything that damages my hair in general. I don't blow dry, I don't dye my hair, and I even rarely use styling products. But there are times when it's necessary for me to do something with my hair, like if it's a special occasion. Since my hair weighs a ton, I don't like to have it in an updo (I get headaches), so a good way for me to still wear it down but also look dressy instead of casual, is to put a little curl in it! My hair is naturally wavy to begin with, so I only need to curl the areas that are less-wavy, and the front layers around my face.
I bought the Kiss Instawave Automatic Hair Curler on Amazon, and right now it's about $35.
Normally, I curl my hair with a small, portable hair straightener. Yes, that's the opposite of what most people do with a hair straightener, but it's easier to create loose waves with those than with a traditional curling iron. Some days, for whatever reason, my hair will be flatter/straighter than other days, so if I'm going out, I can just add my usual waves back in, or just leave it flat depending on the look I'm going for.
I would say that the Kiss Instawave creates curls that are just a smidge curlier than what I normally would prefer, but it was really fast and easy to use. Literally just a push of a button.
Overall, I think this item is well worth the $28c-35 it sells for on Amazon. I also tested it out on my daughters, and I think that this works best with thicker, coarser hair types than with fine hair, and it's much easier to use if your hair is shoulder length or longer. You can still use it on really fine, short hair, but you'll want to keep it on the curler part for way longer than the 8-10 seconds that I use. And there is a learning curve if your hair is on the shorter side, so just play around with it. You're going to mess it up a few times at least.
I'm still on vacation and will be for the rest of the month, so if my posts are coming in at random times, I am so sorry. I am hopping time zones a lot, or on planes (so no wifi), and also still figuring out how to use my international data plan (it is NOT as intuitive as you'd think and I want to fire their UX/UI guy). I can't wait to tell you all about my adventures, once I give myself a second to stop and rest that is! Hope your weekend is wonderful!
