As a long time customer, I was really dismayed to find out that they were literally DOUBLING the cost of their items. I was subscribed for their 2-shirt package (you can choose 1-3 shirts to be delivered to you each season), and it was originally $50. Now it's $100. And that hurts my bank account's feelings.
But here I am, paying them anyway. I don't care if they're unstainable, because they basically already were before, and it sucks that I am now paying double what I used to, but I actually genuinely like their shirts, so I'll grumble about it and just let them take my money. I mean, $100 every 3 months is really not that bad, considering that some of my favorite tops were designed by them. And they fit me PERFECTLY. (And did I mention they carry tops in 00, a TRUE 00? Not the bullshit vanity-sized 0 and 00 that are really a size 4 that is lying to us? The sleeves and torsos are the right length too for us petite women! The busts are also scaled down, so you don't have to worry about wearing a padded bra just to fill out a top that was clearly meant for a 6 foot Nordic woman).
But on to the tops! I am subscribed to the 2-shirt package for $100, and chose to have the Charles and the Laurent tops sent to me (FYI, you don't have to choose from the current season's options, they also include other basic tops). I know, I know, neither are Type 4 but I don't really care. The light blue one has a sheen so it might qualify as a Type 4 "icy tint", but I'm basically willing to justify all light items I like as an "icy tint" so I'm not exactly the best source. ALL THE JUSTIFICATIONS.
This is the Charles top, in a size 00, and it's not meant to be super tight or anything. I should have tucked it in better. It's a bit sloppy. But I decided to leave it untied because 1). I don't really know how to tie a cute, neat bow, and 2). I suddenly looked really derpy the second it was tied. For some reason, Little Bo Peep comes to mind.
The second top is the Laurent, also size 00. It's your basic, striped, button-up shirt. I definitely don't mind having paid $50 for the top above, but this one... not sure it was worth the money. I mean, there's nothing really special about it. But then again, I also don't own a basic, collared, striped button-up shirt, so it DOES fill a wardrobe need. (Pants from the Gap.)
In the meantime, I highly recommend checking out Elizabeth & Clarke. No, I'm not paid by them and I don't even get referral credits or anything at all if you do choose to subscribe. I just really like their shirts and even after doubling their price, I'm still willing to remain a subscriber, which says something. I really should have unsubscribed out of principal, but damn it, I JUST LIKE THEM ANYWAY. They've got me hooked. I'm too far in.
I'm actually considering bumping up my subscription to 3 shirts per quarter; what is wrong with me? Why am I rewarding their douchey price increase? Gaaaah.
Fashion and I have a complicated relationship. Pretty sure it's abusive and I'm being used for my money. There's an intervention in my future somewhere...
