Also, downtown Portland, on the waterfront (which is where my hotel was), is surprisingly small. I could easily tromp up and down in my 4-inch heels and see the whole city in an afternoon. But there was a surprisingly large amount of live music venues and shows to see, even on weekdays.
The best part of the trip is a toss up between meeting up with an old friend who lives a couple hours away from Portland, and leaving Portland.
On the plus side, food and dining is SOOOO CHEAP compared to Seattle. Even though I was downtown where I'm sure things are pricier, it was all price like happy hour pub food. It's not like the northeast doesn't also have a high cost of living, so I wonder why Seattle marks up its food so much. I shouldn't have to drop $40 per person at a MID-range restaurant.
Without going into all the horrible details, this was one of the worst trips of my life because I just really really hate everyone at that company and the entire tech industry in general. Fighting for equal pay, equal promotions, equal recognition for accomplishments, whilst trying to dismantle racism, xenophobia, and misogyny at the same time, since it's so woven in to the "culture" of tech... it's fucking exhausting, and it's also exhausting to have to constantly represent every Asian ever, every immigrant ever, and every woman in STEM ever. When do I get to be a person, an individual, instead of a poster girl for a damn cause? I am TIRED, people.
Time for another dark, bitter coffee.
On a lighter note, I'll be posting an OOTD later! Yeah, that's right, two posts today! I put a preview up on my Instagram (Mostly Petite Me has its own account now, follow me!) so check back in later this afternoon or evening! I also have a Twitter set up (@mostlypetiteme) but I haven't tweeted anything yet. Baby steps! See you later!
