Fun fact: I can trace my father's side all the way back to not only the Revolutionary War, but also to one of the original Mayflower passengers, and to members of the Cherokee nation. I am both simultaneously an off-the-boat immigrant, and also amongst the first white Americans to even set foot on this continent. I find it amusing when someone who is a racist white piece of shit says things like us Chinks need to go back to our own country. Bitch, MY family has been here since before it was even a country. And YOUR family, what, has been here for 3 or 4 generations? Shut the fuck up, I am more "American" than you (though really, can we just all finally admit that the Natives are the REAL Americans here?). Yes, I am an immigrant, but unless you're Native, SO ARE YOU. And if we're going to play that game of who's been here longest, MY family through my father's side was off the ORIGINAL boat: the Mayflower. At best, if you can trace your DIRECT lineage to the Mayflower too, then we've been here EQUALLY long. But if you can't, I WIN. MY family has been longer than most other White American families. You want to tell me to go back to my own country? Fine, go back to yours too. The Natives would LOVE to deport us!
Xenophobic commentary aside, I kept my outfit really simple today because I was going to be running around with my kids, grilling, and jumping on a trampoline. I kept the color scheme patriotic, and even included some fun make-up! Plain white tee (Helmut Lang), navy striped shorts (Diane von Furstenberg), red sandals (Seychelles), necklace from the DYT Type 4 store, and a blue purse (Kate Spade).
Previous years I spent a lot of time decorating the exterior of my house (flags galore, and a bunch of red, white and blue paper lanterns, and lots of lights), but this year, I was just exhausted, and this is as far as my decorating got: rice krispie treats. There, I patrioted.
