Hey everyone, sorry this post is so late today. The site I host this blog on was having a lot of technical issues, and I'm just glad to get anything up at all. I am healing up from my eye surgery quite nicely but I am still foregoing eye make-up (and make-up in general) because my vision is still adjusting, I'm still banned from rubbing my eyes, and I do NOT want to get make-up in there right now.
But my husband also insisted that we go out. Fuuuuuuuuu...
Thankfully I'm used to a minimal amount of make-up, but I usually put *something* on when going out on a date, usually undereye concealer because I'm perpetually up too late and tired. If I am feeling extra fancy, there is eyeliner and lipstick involved.
The challenge here was how to not draw attention to my tired, swollen, half-blind eye. I need to bring attention to ANYTHING ELSE but my eyes.
I also decided to put on a pair of my glasses that are supposed to help reduce eye strain since I stare at a screen all day (they filter out blue light or something? Their effectiveness is dubious, but I already paid for them). In my younger years, I always felt like glasses hid my face and features, that no one saw ME, they saw my glasses first and that was it. I still believe this is true. People hide behind glasses. And I decided I was too. Nobody is even going to SEE my eyes if I have glasses on. Sad, but true.
Also, never underestimate the power of boobs. I guarantee no one at the bar noticed my swollen, healing eye. I brought the attention *downward*, with a big shiny necklace and everything. A very intentional move on my part. (What is wrong with me that I'd rather look a little slutty than have people ask me what's wrong with my eye?!)
Here's my whole outfit, by the way. It's been featured before last year, but unlike celebrities and Instagram fashionistas, I do in fact where outfits twice sometimes (the horror!). The dress is BCBGeneration, the necklace is from a boutique subscription box, cardigan from the Limited, basic black Danskin tights, monogrammed clutch from Jane.com, and the boots are Mojo Moxy. (Not everything I wear is high-end designer. I know it sometimes comes off like that, but I also own normal clothing.)
On the plus side, I am nearing the end of my awful 28-day Teatox (Skinny Mint) and can't wait to tell you how shitty it was (pun intended). Definitely check back for that.
Signing off until tomorrow... <3
